You’re invited to be part of an initiative which will give hope to 1,250 girls in GB’s 125th birthday year.
Working with UK Charity Fields of Life, Girls’ Brigade Europe has created a fundraising appeal to buy 1,250 I AM GIRL menstrual health packs which will transform the lives of 1,250 girls in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Unfortunately periods are a taboo subject in these countries and only 1 in 5 girls make it to secondary school. For many, as they don’t have access to sanitary pads or safe toilets, just having their period is of the reasons why girls drop out. Completing their full education can transform the opportunities and lives of girls in East Africa.
Fields of Life and Girls' Brigade Europe believe:
girls are entitled to dignity and a future.
girls have the power to change the world.
girls and young women have the potential to be the change agents within their families, communities and nations.
girls are created equal in the eyes of God and should be valued and cherished.
By supporting the I AM GIRL fundraising initiative, you will be helping to...
Cherish A Girl. Change Her World.

Viola's story: Not Afraid, But Ready
Viola is 12 years old, she is primary six at God Cares Primary School and is waiting for her first period. Six months ago, she was worried and anxious, like many girls her age in Mityana, Central Uganda. Would she remain in school or dropout like many of her friends?
Viola was indeed afraid that she would drop out of school when her periods started. Now, however, she is not worried, in fact she is eagerly waiting and also prepared; she has already tailored two reusable sanitary pads in anticipation of her first period.
She said, 'I have no reason to panic, through the I AM GIRL programme I now know that menstruation is normal and I can deal with it.'
